Twenty Million People (2013) Review by David G from California
For everyone who saw Silver Linings Playbook and thought that it was atypical Hollywood romantic comedy trying to pitch itself as somethingdifferent; I urge you to go see Twenty Million People and have yourfaith in movie making restored.

This film is everything a romantic comedy should be. Often whencharacters in movies have too quick a wit and the banter is too cleverit serves to alienate you from those characters and made them less"human" and more shtick. Here, the cynical and ironic humor is clearlybeing used by the characters as a way of avoiding being vulnerable andopen (while still being hilarious). The humor here actually bring youcloser to the characters and makes them more real and likable withoutever seeming forced or too scripted. (as a side note: Getting a chanceto meet Michael Ferrell in person, I found him to be just as quick andfunny as the character he portrays).

In addition, the romance here feels very real. The characters aren'tfalling head over heels for each other after one glance, or chasingafter trains to tell each other that they've "always loved them".Instead they are often more at home sending text messages thaninteracting in person and are trying to navigate how to find intimacyin a world where technology seems to keep us more and more at an armslength from those around us.

Anyone with an opportunity to see this film should absolutely do so.Who knows, you may even fall in love with it.

Twenty Million People is one of the most honest and endearing romanticcomedies I've ever had the pleasure of seeing in a theater (oranywhere, for that matter). This film's greatest strength is itsability to blend emotionally true- to-life moments with hilarious innermonologues that manifest themselves within the mind of our maincharacter and take over his world as he reels from something he neverthought would ever have affected him. A broken heart, you ask? Maybe.Or maybe it's something a little deeper than that.

With A-plus writing and an intimate cinematography that further bringsto life the stellar performances of the leads Michael Ferrell and DevinSanchez, Twenty Million People will be sure to entertain all who all itto become a part of their world for the duration of this slightlysordid love story that will at once uplift us and maybe even teach us athing or two about fate and finding that one soul mate in the midst oftwenty million others.
